I was listening the other day to an interview with a writer whose work I generally do not like. Of course i was making smart-ass comments to myself about the wide gulf between his opinion of his own work, and the actual quality of that work. But then there was a question about his writing process and he said a few things about out lining and structure that made me say "I have to try that". And later I was listening to an interview with Malcolm Gladwell in which he re-explained his 10,000 hours principle. The end result of this new thinking is that the current issue I am working on more tightly plotted and outlined than any work i have ever done. It is a little bit uncomfortable right now, but I can see already how valuable this skill will be.
